School Meals and Lunchtime
Excellent dinners are cooked on the premises at Wyndham Primary School and are good value for money. Our school lunch menus can be downloaded from this site and are updated termly.
Universal Infant Free School Meals – From 1st September 2014, Reception Class, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils are eligible for Universal Infant Free School Meals. A meal is provided to all pupils within these year groups. If parents do not want their child to have a school meal, arrangements are to be made with the school for the pupil to go home for lunch during the school lunch hour. Please contact the school if you wish to discuss this further.
Our staff support the children during lunchtimes and many of our staff choose to eat their school meal with the children as well. The staff and pupils find this time very enjoyable as they discuss new tastes and the nutritional benefits of the food they are eating.
Dinner money is collected on a weekly basis by Mrs Laws, Admin Officer so please send each child’s money in a separate envelope or container which is labelled with your child’s name, class and amount enclosed.
A meal costs £2.00 and can be paid for weekly, monthly, half termly or termly. If payment is made by cheque, please make it payable to “SMART Multi Academy Trust”.
If you think you may be entitled to free school meals, you can pick up an application form at any time from the office or by following the link below and applying online.
The school has a healthy eating programme but if you wish, your child may bring a packed lunch to school (only for Key Stage 2 pupil). Parents of pupils who bring packed lunches are asked to be mindful of the need for healthy eating by all pupils. Pupils are encouraged to have a balanced diet and are not able to bring fizzy drinks or drinks in cans or glass bottles to school, nor are they allowed sweets / chocolate.
If your child is changing from school meals to packed lunches or vice versa we need at least one week’s notice given in writing or for you to speak directly with the school office.
Children cannot alternate between school lunches and packed lunches on a daily basis. Without written / oral notification to the school office parents may be charged for meals ordered.
Pupils in Foundation Stage have milk and fruit each morning. We ask Parents of pupils in the Reception to contribute towards the cost of the milk this is charged at £6.50 per term. Pupils in Key Stage 1 have a daily piece of fruit provided by the National Fruit Scheme. Pupils in both Key Stage 1 Key Stage 2 have fruit and sandwiches each morning break.
There are not set guidelines for lunchtime provision. The recommendations are 1:50 staffing ratio for Key Stage 2 or 1:40 throughout a primary school. We usually have 9 staff (8 class based and a senior supervisor) plus all the lunchtime club staff mentioned in our newsletters to parents).
